Problems from Cartesian axes and representation of points in the plane

Describe how to place a point in the coordinates axes. Then say what the horizontal and vertical axes are called.

Development:

Theoretical exercise.

Solution:

To place a point $$P=(a, b)$$ in the plane, the procedure to follow is the following one:

  1. We draw a coordinates axes.
  2. We place point $$a$$ in the horizontal axis and point $$b$$ in the vertical axis.
  3. We draw straight lines perpendicular to the axes for $$a$$ and for $$b$$.
  4. The intersection of the previous perpendicular lines is point $$P$$.

The horizontal axis is called the abscissa axis. The vertical axis is called the ordinates axis.
